    Rosenwald Schools:  Saving Part of Virginia’s Past Becomes a Modern-day Effort

    Earlier this year, Preservation Virginia and John Tyler Community College co-hosted Saving Virginia’s Rosenwald Schools, an event that drew 75 people from across the Commonwealth to Tyler’s Chester Campus. Among the attendees were representatives from 16 Rosenwald schools, including alumni; preservationists; researchers; academics; students; and history buffs. They drove from as far away as Bath County and the Northern Neck, eager to share stories, exchange ideas, and discuss successes and failures in their personal efforts to preserve the memories and legacy of these schools.

    Preservation Virginia/JTI Tobacco Barns Mini-Grants Project Update

    Preservation Virginia is pleased to announce grant recipients for the Tobacco Barns Mini-Grants Project for 2014. Funded by a grant from JTI Leaf Services, the Mini-Grants Project was formed to provide small grants to help stabilize and repair tobacco barns in a three-county area: Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties in Virginia and Caswell County, North Carolina.     PRESERVATION VIRGINIA ANNOUNCES 2014 MOST ENDANGERED SITES LIST RICHMOND, VA – (April 29, 2014) Preservation Virginia presents its tenth consecutive list of Virginia's Most Endangered Historic Sites to raise awareness of places that face imminent or sustained threats to their integrity or survival. The statewide preservation organization creates the annual listing to bring attention to these properties at risk and to encourage individuals and organizations to advocate for the protection and preservation of Virginia's historic places.
