Tusculum was the original home of the Crawford family in Amherst County, neighboring Lynchburg, VA. This fine home was built in two stages. The initial house was built around 1780 for David Crawford, and the second addition was built around 1820, leaving an open porch with a staircase to the second floor. All of the original trim and hardware remained including the mantles, chair rail, doors and flooring.
The Revolving Fund Program stepped in to save the building from demolition. The building had to be dismantled and moved in order to be saved. The building is in storage at neighboring Sweet Briar College and will be rebuilt in Amherst County.
