In the 1819 landmark Supreme Court case, McCulloch v. Maryland, Chief Justice John Marshall said, “The Constitution is intended to endure for ages to come and consequently to be adapted to the various crises of human affairs.” Marshall revered the U.S. Constitution above all else, but how did this government come to be and what role did John Marshall have in ratifying the proposed document in Virginia? How and why did the United States even come to the decision to introduce the Constitution?

There’s no better place to be on National Constitution Day than the John Marshall House.
