400th Wedding Anniversary Event : Pocahontas and John Rolfe
Join us at the site of the land grant given to the young couple by the bride's father, Chief of the Powhatans, Wahunsenacawh. On this day we will present a special tour focused on the 1614 marriage which helped establish a peace between the native peoples of eastern Virginia and the English colonists. We will offer a place for dialogue surrounding Pocahontas's capture, Christian baptism and subsequent marriage. Learn about perspectives on the relationship between the English settlers and Virginia Indians and how the legacy of Pocahontas’s marriage has evolved over the last 400 years.
