Focus Tour Friday: Brick By Brick: Architecture of the John Marshall House

Apr 5, 2024

12:00 pm — 1:00 pm

In this behind the scenes focus tour, join museum educators to learn about the 1790 John Marshall House brick by brick as we dive into the physical structure. What renovations did the Chief Justice make during his lifetime, and why?  How did public perception shape his choices? The oldest surviving brick structure in the City of Richmond, the John Marshall House is an exceptional example of Federal style architecture as the United States created its own identity after the American Revolution. 45 years of occupancy by the Chief Justice, dozens of inhabitants, and 233 years of footsteps – sign up now to add your footsteps to the list!

This tour is provided in-person at the John Marshall House and part of it will be conducted outside. In the event of rainy weather, the tour may be modified or resheduled. General museum admission applies and Preservation Virginia members attend for free. Purchase tickets online or at the door!
