Focus Tour Friday: Overheard at the Marshall House

Aug 2, 2024

12:00 pm — 1:00 pm

If the walls of the 1790 John Marshall House could talk, what would they say? What types of nation-building conversations took place in the Large Dining Room? What news of local and international events took place behind the closed Parlor Room door?

Even as a residence to the Chief Justice, the John Marshall House did not exist in a vacuum in the Early Republic, and was not immune to or untouched by the political or legal disputes, social upheaval, insidious gossip, talk of revolution, and much more, that shaped the city, state, or nation during Marshall’s fifty years in Richmond. On this Focus Tour Friday, we present a new tour, “Overheard at the Marshall House,” in which your guide will explore various historic affairs that would have been talked about within the many rooms of the Marshall House, both in raucous debate and hushed tones.

Standard museum admission applies; free for Preservation Virginia members. Advanced registration is not required but recommended, as spaces are limited.
