Join Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources for a webinar to discuss connecting historic preservation and natural resource conservation. Jen Hurst-Wender, Director of Museum Operations and Education, will be speaking about Preservation Virginia’s sites, and the value of connecting open spaces more fully to historic places.
The webinar will also discuss the use of National Heritage Areas, places where historic and natural resources combine to form nationally important landscapes, with a focus on the Great Dismal Swamp― one of the most unique ecological landscapes on the U.S. East Coast and also home to an incredibly rich number of Virginia Indian and African American cultural and historical sites. In addition to Congressman McEachin, speakers include; Nikki Bass, Nansemond Indian Nation; Chris Lowie, Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge; Eric Shepherd, Association for the Study of African American Life & History; and Elizabeth Vehmeyer, the National Park Service.
