Spend time at Cape Henry Lighthouse on June 15 taking a deep dive into the history of the War of 1812, also known as “The Forgotten War.”
You’ll have a chance to engage with our historic interpreters on the events of the War of 1812 and learn about what occurred after the arrival of British soldiers at Cape Henry and how our lighthouse keeper was affected. You’ll also learn why the Cape Henry Lighthouse was turned off for the first time in its history of navigating ships through the Chesapeake Bay.
A member of the War of 1812 Society will be joining us to discuss Cape Henry Lighthouse’s role in the war. Lastly, we’ll remember veterans of the war from Virginia Beach by displaying their names around the lighthouse grounds.
