2023 Preservation Academy

Introduction

Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources are offering a second year of the Virginia Preservation Academy- a series of live, interactive webinars on key historic preservation topics by preservation professionals, with direct interaction between participants and panelists.

The Preservation Academy is geared toward a diverse audience of preservation professionals, volunteers, architectural review board members, stewards of historic places, local government staff, community leaders, owners of historic properties, and anyone interested in historic preservation.

Topics for 2023 include information on Virginia’s New Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Historic Preservation Fund; Virginia’s Historical Marker Program and how to start a local marker program in your community; the critical need for more preservation tradespeople; how to get involved in preservation and tools to help save historic sites in your community; dispelling common preservation myths; and historic rehabilitation tax credits for regular homeowners. Participants who complete all six of the workshops will receive a Virginia Historic Preservation Academy Certificate of Completion.
