Preservation in Action: Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary in Brunswick County

19th century frame house

Preservation Virginia staff visited Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary in Brunswick County last week to look at an early house in need of repairs. The farm is operated by Susan Klingenberg, who rescues farm animals in need and provides them with a safe home.

Small shed rooms on either side of the chimney. What were they used for?

The building in question is a 19th century, one-story frame house with a loft. Several shed additions have been added over the years. The farm was once owned by the Lewis Family. A larger, ca. 1850’s house, several outbuildings, and a cemetery also exist on the farm.
